Gantok - Capital of dreams

Sikkim - Day I - Gangtok

Gangtok  -   An enchanting city perched on the slope of hill beckoned. The gentle winding road to Rumtek monastery passed through small villages,  terraced rice fields and the occasional colorful Buddhist prayer flags. After a moderate climb we reached the monastery

The profusion of flowers and beautiful view add to the charm of the place.

From the monastery we moved on to Ban Jhakri Falls .

The Fall is situated  adjacent to a garden and an alternative energy park. A good place for kids.

By afternoon we were back in Gangtok to visit the flower show. Though the exhibition is confined to a very small area is not to be missed.

A visit to Duddul Chorten and adjacent museum was rewarding experience. The monument in white and gold  was serene and the museum had a small collection of manuscripts, idols  and other religious objects.

After a break for tea we soon moved on to our next destination - Hanuman Tok. Situated at an altitude of 7200 ft, the temple offers magnificent views of Mt. Kachenjunga in clear weather. However when we reached the temple it was wreathed in mist. The temple is under the control of army and is well maintained. We winded up our hectic day after Darshan at Ganesh Tok, another temple that offers panoromic view of Gangtok.
